ETYM quote of the year !

"Ok, so I've not been around much lately, but when I have, all I've been reading is people eating a shed load of carbs and promising to get back to low carb tomorrow. Well people, today is tomorrow!

You are killing yourselves. Sorry to put it bluntly, but no amount of sympathy and empathy is going to help here. You are eating high carb high fat and it is killing you. Either get back to low carb and reduce your BG or stop pretending you're low carbing and reduce your fat intake. You can't have it both ways. It is killing you and tomorrow never comes!"

Smidge

Too right Smidge

Just don't mention cakes and commiserations club, or carboholics, and never ever say they are doing a Grazer.

My main problem with moderation - it is much harder to do than lowering just one thing. People are notorious in failing to find a balance in their life, be it a diet, spending money, doing chores.

If there were no topics from two members who cannot grasp the basics, there would be no ETYM. Other than cut and paste this is all that is happening.

Smidge would be an asset to any forum but her talents and those of a few others seem utterly wasted on the old ETYM at present. It is up to the owners to make it a worthwhile place for these people to help others, I wasn't reassured by the reaction to her post although there were some who obviously shared her views.

The problem seems to be that some members want the attention and will go to any lengths to get it.
When they don't get the sympathy vote then they threaten to leave.
How many times can you try and help someone who does not want to be helped?

I think the attention they get is actually counterproductive for them and distracts attention from some important and informative posts by others. That may seem harsh but their problems are not soley diabetes-related and very few would be equipped to give them the advice they obviously need. Its a pity with a larger membership and more regular posters it wouldn't be the problem it so obviously is. People are deterred from posting by the attention-seekers. There are more than two of them, its just one huge missed opportunity and very sad.

It's a great pity that Defren and Grazer are in charge. It cannot work with them as they are a couple of wanna be Endos.

To be fair Grazer did an excellent job with the newbies on DCUK but there are fewer on the old ETYM.

The whole point is that we try to share our own experiences to help others - we don't claim to be Drs or psychologists.

Most decent Drs admit that people living with any chronic disease will know more about its management than the professionals, but if you have neither the experience nor the medical knowledge why should anyone listen?

A lot of hot air and name calling on the thread.

Hardly the way to sort things out and will deter newbies.

I notice the welcome note has been edited too to remove the 150 grams a day to start with advice given to newbies, quite ironic after all the grief you got for suggesting that to them 9 months ago-same with the forum name...You really couldn't
make it up eh!

Grazer gets there in the end, soon he will be telling us he has slashed his carb intake to save his pancreas.

Then he will have gone full circle, all he needs to do is dump the statins that have made him batshit.
